Football Math

Football math is something you do in Ms.Mullins math class. Every Wednesday you talk about football and do math with it. Every kid has a kid and you have to fill out wins and loss's for your division. It's really fun and it relates to math.

NCAA Football 2010

NCAA Football 2010 is good. Road to Glory. Erin Andrews doesn't repeat the same stuff as much as Kirk Herbstreit. You can edit uniforms but you have to have Xbox Live. It's not as good as Madden so I'll give it a B+.

Madden 2010

Madden 2010 is great. The graphics are amazing. You can customize uniforms for any team. A new feature is fight for the fumble. When a player fumbles and there is a bunch of players on the ground going for the fumble there will be a button on the screen for you to push as many times as you can as fast as you can. The button will very and whoever preses the buttons faster gets the fumble.i would give this game a rating of a A-.

Sixth Grade Pasta Restaurant

Every year in May the sixth grade opens a pasta restaurant complete with live entertainment, waiters, chefs, cashiers, pasta demonstrators and more. The restaurant is open from 11 to 1. We have to fill out resumes for the job we're wanting, though sometimes it's not the job we get. Just like the real world, if you misbehave while on the job, you can be fired (forced to sit in the office for the rest of the time). The cost for all of the supplies needed (pasta makers, tomato sauce, chef's hats, cheese graters, table cloths, register, decoration, drinks, bowls, spoons, etc.) comes to about $300. But thanks to Sonic and Donor's Choose, some of our items have been paid for, making the rest of the expenses manageable. Almost 200-300 people come every year for the pasta reataurnat. It's a very fun and memorable experience for sixth graders.

Friday Free Time

Parents - I'm sure your child has explained why he or she is taking a drink and snack on Friday. Friday Free Time is a special thing we do on Friday for people who haven't got any or got only one conduct form. On Thursday your child gets a slip of orange paper that says "You have earned no conduct forms this week. Tomorrow will be a Fabulous Friday!! Feel free to bring a drink and a snack. TGIF!" This means exactly what it says. Kids who didn't earn FFT would read. If so, your child will always have next week to earn FFT.

Teachers are like...

We've been learning about analogies this week, and there were some great ones written! Here are a few examples. The assignment (obviously) was to begin with, "Teachers are like..."

Ana: A teacher is a lighthouse, guiding you to the shore of education. A teacher is a lighthouse because if you are off the chart, they put you in place. A teacher is a lighthouse. They stand strong against nasty weather and students.

Caelan:
Teachers are like permanent markers because they make a memory on your life. They teach you things you didn't know. They are so much fun to be with, and they do fun activitie and work with you. They make a mark on your life. Teachers are like permanent markers because they make a memory on your life.

Mika:
Teachers are like permanent markers. They make a mark that lasts forever on yu. There are many varieties of each. Some markers are just like all the others; some are unique. They both draw a picture - the marker on paper, the teacher in your mind. Teachers are like permanent markers.

Elijah:
A teacher is like a mechanic. A mechanic always has something to fix on a car, and the teacher has something to fix for a student. Each car has something different that needs fixing, just like each student. A teacher is like a mechanic.

Sydney:
A teacher is like a computer. They are sort of alike because they are both chock full of information. Both of them sometimes put you on hold, but the computer always gets back to you when you're online, and the teacher when you're IN line. They both present facts to you in an orderly way, and the teacher and the computer give you easy directions to understand. A teacher is like a computer.

A poem by Elijah

Homework!
Homework!
How much can there be!?
Math?
Spelling?
Science?
Reading?
and history?!?
What's 2 x 4?
And how do you spell temptation?
What's a spore?
I really need a vacation!

ABC Books

Recently the 6th graders at Hillcrest have been creating ABC books. We chose a word that means something to us starting with each letter of the alphabet. Some of the letters were hard to come up with words but others were a piece of cake (idiom!)

Some people finished early because it was easier for them, while other scouldn't think of hardly antying! But everyone had fun. Since we were doing PowerPoints, a lot of students chose color templates and designs, but then we learned we would be printing our ABC book in black and white, and some kids were disappointed.
