The Indianapolis Colts got their second win of the NFL season with a 27-23 defeat of the Miami Dolphins. Pryton Manning threw two touchdowns. The Phoenix Mercury advanced to the next round of the WNBA with a 100-92 win at home, in the only other major event today.
Tues. Sept. 22
The New York Yankees became the first team to qualify for the playoffs after their 6-5 victory over the L.A. Angels and Texas's loss to Oakland. The round of 16 in South american soccer started with Uruguay's River Plate beating Vitoria of Brasil, 4-1 in the day's lone game. Both Houston Dynamo and Pachuca had easywins in North America. In tennis Justine Henin ended her retirement.
Wed. Sept. 23
The Atlanta Braves manager announced his retirement and Canada beat the Dominican Republic 103-37 in women's basketball in today's biggest news. In the WNBA the finals of both the Eastern and the Western Conferences started. Detroit beat Indiana 72-56 and Phoenix beat Los Angeles 103-94. In the South American soccer tournament (copa lobertadores) the Round of 16 conyinued. Argentina's Velez Sarsfield narrowly beat Chilean Union Espanola, 3-2, in the day's best game.
Thu. Sept.24
Basketball action continued in the women's tournament in the americas and finished in asia with China beating S.Korea 91-71 in the final. Argentina, Brazil, and Canada all had important wins in the americas tournament. The Copa Libertadores had its round of 16 continue and Quito beat Lanus 4-0 in the big game. The under-20 soccer world cup also started with hosts Egypt beatin Trinidad+Tobago 4-1
